From 1945 to 1956 a special settlement of deported Lithuanians was located in Andronovo (today uninhabited). Deportees who died were buried in a separate part of the settlement graveyard according to Catholic rites with markers and name boards on the graves. The total number buried there is unknown. Thereafter the graveyard was abandoned: it is difficult to reach and hardly anyone visits it.
In 2005 the graveyard was studied by Lithuanian researcher Gintautas Alekna who carried out a photo survey, discovered 36 graves with grave markers, and made a plan of their disposition. In August 2010 the Lithuanian memorial expedition “Atmink” (Remember!) worked there, clearing their compatriots graves, strengthening the grave markers and building a fence around the graveyard.
Research on the Genocide of the Lithuanian People (Lietuvos gyventoju Genocidas; 3 vols. 1999-2009) contains about 130,000 biographical entries (in Lithuanian). Volume 3 covers the period from 1948 onwards.
